SCARVA RANGERS RES 6 BANBRIDGE AFC RES 2
SCARVA’S reserve side hit derby rivals Banbridge AFC Reserves for six in Saturday’s entertaining clash at a wintry Scarva Park.
A stunning long range strike from Kris Heron, who cut inside and unleashed a blistering shot from 25 yards, launched the goal spree.
Greg Douglas embarked on a mazy run down the right and slotted an inviting low cross into the heart of the visitors’ penalty area where Nathan Dodds finished clinically from close range.
When Gregory Morton chipped the ball over the keeper to increase the home side’s lead to 3-0 it looked like being a long afternoon for AFC but a fine Paddy Burns goal put them on the comeback trail and they reduced the deficit to a single goal with a second first half strike.
It could have been even better for the Banbridge side, who struck the Scarva woodwork before the interval.
The game was perfectly poised and the next goal was going to be a crucial one. Darren Clarke completed an important defensive clearance and Gregory Morton hared after it, picking up possession before veering towards goal and slotting the ball neatly under the helpless keeper to make it 4-2.
Nathan Dodds connected with a cross from Greg Douglas but his shot was cleared off the line and a David Dillon shot struck the side netting.
Heron latched on to a penetrating through ball from Greg Douglas and slotted his shot confidently into the net as Scarva restored their three goal cushion.
Douglas turned from supplier to executioner with the home side’s sixth goal of the afternoon, drifting past two opponents before firing home.
Best for Scarva Rangers Reserves – David Dillon.
